Once upon a time, there was a little boy who when his mother seemed to have lost him in the park would eventually find him intently watching musicians performing in the stage. This little one grew up amidst the depressing years of the 80′s when many industries were hurt and business closed thus making life hard for people specially those who lived in the cities. His parents had to work double time, though grandmother was there to help out.
He was first a diligent student,excelling and getting academic awards but soon his young mind got preoccupied with his music .His music became more appealing than books and classes. Besides, he soon found out there were already jobs available for him. Not unlike some young people attracted to the pull of having money from their own sweat and labor to the neglect of studies. He didn’t care anymore for schooling, his guitar became his world and with it dreamt of becoming a musician, not a rocker but somebody who plays behind one. His parents cared and their objection made him ran away from home. However, he saw it wasn’t an easy life away from home.
Eventually, he returned but stood pat on his decision to support himself with jobs and dropped out of school. But before dropping out he played in a youth band that became popular in his neighborhood. His path towards music sought him while being a waiter in a family restaurant. Though the first attempt to join a group ended in a thud,the second try with another company was already written in the stars.It was a joke among his newly formed group that he didn’t even need an audition-only how tall he is and where he lived sufficed.
And so our young man under the company order became totally immersed in dance music with a group although there were few times he was allowed to perform rock with his guitar and sing as well. Grown wiser and realized being a school dropout tag followed him, he decided to return to school and finished his secondary education.
After a few years, done with the 5 year contract, he found himself a solo artist in the warm embrace of another company free to pursue his inclinations and career directions. His record breaking albums and new image brought him closer to the music genre-rock that he loves. It must have been deeply engraved in his heart and his soul so immersed into it. It is no longer wishful thinking on his part to incorporate it his future concepts. He has already done it with the latest soon to be released record Heat.
The one who questioned the values of society where education has a place of high prominence has now changed his views. He enrolled in the university for stage management and applied music. Education has ceased to be a forced path but one that he needed now.
So our man went from fighting the mainstream to rejoining the mainstream but in his own terms.
Maybe it shouldn’t be welcome back rocker Hyun Joong, because it seemed he never left.His legend will live on and more chapters will be written in his book of music.
